Amita is a Clinical psychologist from United Kingdom. She has over 25 years of experience working as a clinical psychologist with clients across the lifespan, from children, adolescents, adults, and families. Prior to moving to Melbourne Amita has worked as a clinical psychologist in the UK and Singapore. She has worked within National Health Services (NHS) in UK, KK Hospital for Women and Children in Singapore as well as in private practice.

Amita’s primary career interest is in the area of child & adolescent mental health and she is trained in cognitive-behaviour therapy (CBT), systemic family therapy, Gottman Couples Therapy and trauma focused therapies. . She can offer support and advice to parents, using various parenting training approaches, such as Positive Parenting and Parents Plus.

Amita has expertise in clinical and psychometric assessments such as IQ/cognitive, personality and other kinds of diagnostic psychological assessments of the children and adults.
Amita’s research interest is about influence of culture on mediating risk, vulnerability and protective factors on psychological well-being and she possess expertise and skills in understanding and assessing the cultural aspects in mental health and parenting among expatriate groups. She can speak South Asian languages e.g. Hindi, Urdu and Bengali.

Amita has been involved in preparing numerous court reports and giving expert testimony in the UK and Singapore family courts in private family law divorce and separation cases, regarding child-parent relationship, contact & custody, parental capacity.
